Springfield, Mass. – The Post University Eagles had one of their greatest offensive outputs in program history in a 23-16 non-conference win over American International College (AIC) on Monday afternoon.
The 23 runs ties for the second most runs the team scored in a game in school history. The school record is 26 in a 2019 win over Caldwell.
Post scored three in the first on a two-run double by Robert Olah and an RBI single from Matt Goehrig and one more in the second on an RBI single from Jordan Glazer to stake the Eagles to a 4-0 lead.
AIC responded with ten runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a three run double from Kiernan Caffrey and a three-run homer by Dalton Quinn to take a 10-4 lead.
The Eagles would fall behind by as much as 12-5, but chipped away at the deficit, scoring one run in each inning from the third to the fifth as Glazer and Michael Gajda hit solo home runs. For Gajda, it was his first career collegiate home run.
Post trailed 13-8 heading into the seventh before the offense took complete control of the game, scoring 12 runs in the inning. The first six batters reached base for the Eagles and scored two on a fielding error, making it a 13-10 game.
An RBI single from Evan Cornwell made it a 13-11 game, and with one out in the inning, Gajda hit a two-run single with the bases loaded to tie the game at 13-13.
Post finally got the lead back on a passed ball that scored Gadja. An RBI double from Jimmy Brennan made it a 16-13 game. Three consecutive bases loaded walks issued to Glazer, Cornwell and Goehrig made it an 18-13 lead and Shane Lindemuth capped the inning with a two-run double, making it a 20-13 Eagles lead.
Post tacked on three more in the seventh as Olah tripled to score Brennan and Michael Pavelchak. Olah would then score on an error off the bat of Cornwell.
Olah and Glazer were both 3-for-5 with four RBI and four runs. Olah now has 51 RBI this season, tying the school mark with Rosario Missitti who had 51 RBI in 2019. Cornwell was 5-for-6 with two runs and two RBI. Gajda was 3-for-6 with three RBI and two runs. All career highs for Gajda. Brennan was 4-for-7 with five runs and an RBI.
The Eagles had 23 hits on the day.
