Lakewood, N.J. – The Post University softball team dropped a pair of games to Georgian Court on Thursday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. Post dropped game one, 10-2, and lost game two 9-2.
The Eagles (8-8, 3-3 CACC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly that scored Caitlin DeAngelis who singled with one out in the inning.
Alyssa Rue tied the game for Georgian Court in the bottom of the second with a home run. Jadalyn Rodriguez followed with a solo homer in the third to give the Lions the 2-1 lead. GCU would score five in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-1 lead.
The Eagles rallied for a run in the top of the fifth on aa fielding error off the bat of DeAngelis that scored Samantha Riccardulli, who doubled to lead off the inning.
The Lions ended the game on a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth by Brittany Gable.
DeAngelis finished the game 2-for-3 with a run. Riccardulli was 1-for-2 with a run.
In game two, after falling behind 5-0 early, Allyson Wallauer hit a two-run homer – her third of the season - to make it a 5-2 game in the bottom of the fourth. After a single by Juliana Rigano and a walk to Julianna Cicala, the Eagles had runners on second and third with two outs. Bailey Dickenson ripped a ball that Gable dove and stopped at second base to get Dickenson out, preventing the Eagles from scoring anymore in the inning.
The Lions got on the board early as led off the bottom of the first with a home run from Alyssa Mungo and scored four more in the fourth on home runs from Taylor Barraza and Kaitlyn Stufft.
GCU (17-9, 6-0 CACC) scored two more runs in both the fourth and fifth inning, highlighted by solo home runs by Rodriguez and Rue.
Rigano finished the game 2-for-3.
Up next, the Eagles host Goldey-Beacom on April 2 at LaMoy Field in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
