Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University softball team lost two close games to Goldey-Beacom on Saturday afternoon, 5-3 (8) and 1-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
In game one, the Eagles trailed 3-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh. Samantha Riccardulli reached on an error and reached third on a fly out before Bailee Zaccaro doubled to left to score Riccardulli to make it a 3-2 game. Allyson Wallauer followed with a double of her own to score Zaccaro, tying the game.
In the top of the eighth, however, the Lightning scored two, the final run coming on an RBI bunt single from Bianca Newsom, making it a 5-3 Goldey-Beacom lead.
Alexa Pacy singled in the bottom of the inning but the Eagles were unable to plate a run.
Zaccaro was 2-for-4 in game one, while Pacy was 3-for-3.
Maddison Caldwell struck out two in a complete game.
In a pitchers' duel in game two, the teams were scoreless until the top of the seventh when the Lightning's Nicole Makin hit an RBI single for the lone run of the game.
The Eagles had an opportunity to score in the bottom of the fourth, but left runners on second and third.
Kasey Jusino was 2-for-3 in game two.
Brianna Koref pitched a stellar game, giving up just one earned run on seven hits.
Up next, the Eagles play Saint Thomas Aquinas College in a doubleheader, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at LaMoy Field on April 4.
