West Caldwell, N.J. – Behind eight goals from Morgan Cassiliano, the Post University women's lacrosse team defeated Caldwell, 18-11 to notch their first win in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
The eight goals from Cassiliano are the second most in program history in a game behind nine from Toni Deren in a 2016 game against Wilmington.
Down 1-0 in the first, Cassiliano scored her first goal of the game at the 8:50 mark to tie the game, and add a second with 22 seconds remaining in the first to make it a 2-2 game after one.
Both teams would go into the half tied, 5-5 after Gabrielle Fiora, Molly Dobratz all scored a goal in the second.
Post (2-5, 1-1 CACC) took control in the third, scoring seven straight goals, with Cassiliano scoring three and Dobratz and Athlyn Wood scoring the other two to put the Eagles up 12-5 at the time. They'd give up three goals in the final 1:49 to take a 12-8 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth, the Cougars got within two goals at 12-10, but the Eagles again went on a scoring run with five straight goals, including three from Cara Distefano to take a commanding 17-10 lead. For good measure, Cassiliano scored at the final buzzer for the final tally of the game.
The Eagles have won their last three meetings against Caldwell with Post scoring 18 goals in all of them.
Cassiliano is currently third in the CACC in goals with 27.
In goal, Christina Badaracco had nine saves.
Madison Ellis scored six goals to lead Caldwell (0-5, 0-1 CACC).
Up next, the Eagles head to Wilmington to take on the Wildcats on March 26 at 1 p.m.
