Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University baseball team opened up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with an 11-2 win over Nyack at Municipal Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, starting with an RBI single by Robert Olah that scored Michael Pavlachak, who walked to open the inning. Evan Cornwell hit a two-run single two batters later to drive in Olah and Hunter Keller, giving the Eagles the early 3-0 lead.
Post scored another three runs in the bottom of the third to double its lead again starting with an RBI single from Olah. Post snagged two more runs on a ball hit by Jordan Glazer that was misplayed by the first baseman that scored Cornwell and Olah.
After Nyack (0-5, 0-1 CACC) answered with its only two runs of the game in the top of the fourth, the Eagles put the game away with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Olah opened the inning with a triple followed by an RBI single from Shane Lindemuth to put Post up, 7-2. The Eagles added a run on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Harry Allegra. Pavelchak ended the scoring in the inning with an RBI single.
The Eagles (5-15, 1-0 CACC) tacked on one more run in the eighth on an RBI fielder's choice by Lindemuth.
The Eagles pitching was stellar as starter Dan Raglievich struck out five in five innings of work while Rian Balbino struck out eight in four innings, allowing just two hits. It was a career-high for Balbino in strikeouts.
Olah finished the game 4-for-5 with three runs and an RBI. Cornwell was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Lindemuth was 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI.
Up next, the Eagles play host to Goldey-Beacom for a doubleheader on March 26 beginning at noon.
