Softball Takes Out The Brooms In Sweep Of SCSU

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University softball team swept Southern Connecticut State University in its first home games of the year on Monday. The Eagles won game one, 9-1 in five innings and 3-1 in game two.

Brianna Koref pitched her third complete game win in game one, giving up just one earned run on five hits, walking just two and striking out four.

Post jumped on the board early, scoring twice in the bottom of the first as Leyri Rivera led the inning off with a walk and Caitlin DeAngelis and Bailee Zaccaro followed with back-to-back RBI doubles.

After giving back a run in the third the Eagles scored one more in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch and three in the fourth on another RBI double by DeAngelis and sacrifice flies by Zaccaro and Jusino.

Post put the game away via the mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth with three more runs, and finished off by a two-run single by Rivera.

DeAngelis and Rivera both finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Zaccaro finished with two RBI and Samantha Riccardulli finished 1-for-3 with two runs.

In game two, Maddison Caldwell put together another top-notch performance for the Eagles on the mound in the win. She pitched a complete game, giving up just one earned run on seven hits and two walks while striking out two.

Post again struck in the first on a passed ball that scored Rivera who reached on an error.

The Eagles (5-5) scored one more in the third on an RBI single by Zaccaro that scored DeAngelis who tripled with one out.

After the Owls scored one in the sixth, the Eagles got a little insurance in the bottom of the inning on a single from Alexa Pacy that scored Allyson Wallauer who walked to lead off the inning.

Riccardulli was 2-for-3 in the second game. DeAngelis was 1-for-2 with a run.

Up next, the Eagles open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a doubleheader at Felician beginning at noon.
