Softball Splits, Defeats Wayne State Behind Bat Of Deangelis

Winter Haven, FL. – The Post University softball team split a pair of games on Friday afternoon. The Eagles lost to Slippery Rock, 7-6 in eight innings before defeating Wayne State in the second game, 6-1.

In the win over Wayne State, Caitlin DeAngelis went off, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and a run, including an RBI double in the third, an RBI single in the fourth and a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to give Post a 6-0 lead, putting the game away for the Eagles.

Leyri Rivera, Alexa Pacy and Samantha Riccardulli each had two hits. Riccardulli also scored two runs and drove in a run on an RBI single in the sixth.

Brianna Koref had her second complete game of the young season, allowing just one run on eight hits and three walks.

Against Slippery Rock, the Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead, scoring three runs in the top of the third as Deangelis homered with two outs to start a rally. After the homer, Bailee Zaccaro singled and was followed by a an RBI double by Allyson Wallauer. Rivera came up next and drove in Wallauer with an RBI single.

Post scored two more in the top of the fourth on a two-run single by Zaccaro, putting Post up, 5-0. In the top of the fifth, Courtney Brobst hit her first homer of the season, fiving the Eagles a 6-0 lead.

Slippery Rock rallied, scoring one in the bottom of the sixth and five in the bottom of the seventh as Anna Villes and Erin Garddner each had two-run singles before Emma Kennedy tied the game with an RBI double.

Post was unable to score in the top of the eighth and Slippery Rock scored on a pass ball to win the game in the bottom of the inning.

DeAngelis was 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Zaccaro was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI.

Up next, the Eagles head back to Connecticut to host Southern Connecticut State University in a doubleheader at LaMoy Field, beginning at 2:30 p.m. on March 21.
