Lake Worth, FL – The Post University held a three-run lead early but lost 12-5 to Saint Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) on Wednesday afternoon.
After a scoreless first two innings, the Eagles jumped on the board in the third inning. Matt Goehrig and Jordan Glazer led off the inning with back-to-back singles. With one out in the inning, Evan Cornwell beat out a single and the ball was thrown away, allowing Goehrig to score. Hunter Keller followed with a bunt to the pitcher and the ball was thrown away at home as Glazer scored to make it a 2-0 game.
With two outs in the inning, Robert Olah singled off the foot of the pitcher, scoring Cornwell and giving Post the 3-0 lead.
The Spartans got on the board in the sixth, loading the bases with two outs followed by a bases clearing triple from Andrew Guerra, tying the game at 3-3. STAC scored three more in the seventh, two coming on a two-run single from Danny Di Marzo.
Post rallied in the bottom of the eighth, scoring two runs. After a walk to Jimmy Brennan and a single from Olah, Brycin Hernandez hit a single to left field to score Brennan, making it a 6-4 game. The Eagles loaded the bases for pinch hitter Harry Allegra who hit a ball deep in the hole to short to score Hernandez, making it a 6-5 game. Post would end the inning with the bases loaded.
In the top of the ninth, the first seven batters reached base for the Spartans as they scored six runs in the inning to put the game away.
Olah finished the day 2-for-5 with an RBI. Hernandez was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Dan Raglievich started the game, pitching 5.2 innings and striking out seven while giving up three runs on three walks and five hits.
Up next, the Eagles take on Bentley at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
