Lake Worth, FL. – The Post University baseball team lost a tough 3-2 game to Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech) on Monday evening at Santaluces High School.
Matt Goehrig pitched seven stellar innings for the Eagles, giving up just two runs – one earned – on four hits and a walk while striking out six.
Post (4-11) struck first with a run in the first inning as Hunter Keller, who singled with one out in the inning, scored on a wild pitch to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead. The Eagles were able to load the bases but did not get another run across.
The Panthers (20-6) tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch as well.
Florida Tech took the lead on a single in the fourth, but Goehrig was able to get out of the inning, leaving a runner on second with the Panthers leading 2-1.
Goehrig was able to keep the Panthers' bats at bay, retiring 12 of the last 13 batters he faced.
Post tied the game in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Evan Cornwell that scored Jimmy Brennan who led the inning off with a single to right.
Michael Kennedy relieved Goehrig to begin the eighth, and struck out two in the game
However, in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, Hayden Kimball hit an RBI single driving in pinch runner Jack Nagy to win the game for Florida Tech.
Brennan finished the game going 2-for-4 with a run.
Up next, the Eagles face Saint Thomas Aquinas at 3 p.m. on March 16 in Lake Worth, FL.
