Lake Worth, FL. –
Jacob Tamburrino pitched seven strong innings as the Post University baseball team defeated Saint Thomas Aquinas College (STAC), 6-4 on Sunday afternoon to kick off their Spring Break trip.
Tamburrino pitched seven innings giving up just two earned runs on seven hits to go with six strikeouts.
Post jumped out with a run in the first two innings to take an early 2-0 lead. In the first after singles from
Jimmy Brennan and
Robert Olah and a walked sandwiched in by
Harry Allegra, Evan Cornwell drew a bases loaded walk to put the Eagles up, 1-0.
In the second, after
Brycin Hernandez walked and advanced on a wild pitch,
Hunter Keller drove him home with a single to left to put Post up, 2-0.
After the Spartans scored one in the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles scored two in the sixth, the first on a wild pitch that scored Cornwell who reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a
Nate Miller double. Miller would then score on an error, making it a 4-1 game.
Post scored two more in the seventh on three straight singles by Keller, Brennan and
Matt Goehrig to take a 5-1 lead. A sacrifice fly from Olah gave the Eagles the 6-1 lead.
STAC scored one in the seventh and two in the eight, as the Eagles got out of a bases loaded jam to preserve the lead.
Travvis Ferguson came into the game in the ninth and recorded his first save of the season.
The Eagles will take on Florida Tech at 3 p.m. in Lake Worth Florida on Monday.
