Waterbury, Conn. – Four Eagles scored in double figures as the Post University men's basketball team swept the season series with Bloomfield after a 91-74 win in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Wednesday evening at the Drubner Center.
The Eagles have won 11 of their last 12 games and are now 15-7 overall and 11-1 in the CACC, holding a two-game lead in the CACC North Division.
Devonte McCall led the way for the Eagles with 19 points.
David Jasson had 16 and
Isaiah Holmes and
D.J. Frechette each had 11.
The two teams swapped leads twice, with the Bears taking a 16-12 lead at the 11:30 mark. The lead wouldn't last long, as the Eagles scored the next 12 thanks to four three-pointers.
Tyler Small made two, while Holmes and Jasson hit the others to give Post a 24-16 lead with 9:51 remaining.
Bloomfield closed the gap to 28-24 before McCall took over for the final 6:48 of the half, scoring 12 of the Eagles' final 16 points, giving Post the 42-34 lead at the half.
The Eagles wasted little time extending their lead to double digits and keeping it there the rest of the game as a jumper from
Jack Shannon and a three from Holmes put the Eagles up 47-34 with just over a minute coming off the clock in the second half.
Jasson and
Abdul-Basit Ajia combined to score 11 of the next 13 points as the Eagles extended its lead to 18 points at 60-42 with 12:41 remaining.
Post would lead by as much as 21 in the half as the Bears wouldn't get any closer than 12 points the rest of the way as the Eagles hit all ten of their free throws in the second half. Jasson scored 13 of his points in the final 20 minutes of the game.
The Eagles dominated on the boards, grabbing 52 rebounds, with Ajia leading the way with ten to go with his eight points.
Derrick Thomas II had nine points on 4-for-7 shooting. Small had eight points, five rebounds and a season-high seven assists
Post forced 21 turnovers, including 12 steals, leading to 25 points.
The Eagles have won their last four matchups with the Bears, their longest such streak in their matchup history.
Seven of the Eagles' CACC wins this season have been by double figures.
Andres Fulgencio led Bloomfield (8-14, 6-6 CACC) with 14 points.
