Orangeburg, N.Y. - Three Post University men's basketball players recorded double-doubles as the Eagles defeated No. 22 Dominican, 84-72 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division tilt on Thursday evening.
The Eagles, ranked 10
th in the East Region won their tenth consecutive game, extending their school record. They also won their tenth straight conference game to start the season as they sit at 14-6 overall and 10-0 in the CACC with a three game lead over the Chargers (14-4, 7-3 CACC).
David Jasson had a team-high 18 points to go with ten rebounds.
Devonte McCall had 17 points and 11 rebounds and four blocks and
Abdul-Basit Ajia had a career night with 15 points – tying a career-high 16 rebounds and four blocks which were career highs.
The Eagles never trailed, jumping out to an 11-2 lead to start the game, paced by five points from Jasson, including a three.
After the Chargers – ranked second in the East – crept back to within three at 19-16, the Eagles scored the next eight points. The first three coming on a layup and free throw from McCall, followed by a three from
Tyler Small.
Post maintained the lead throughout, never letting the lead dip below five points in the first half as they would go into the half leading by 12 points at 45-33 as Ajia scored the final five points, the last on a three-pointer at the buzzer.
The second half saw the Eagles extend their lead to as much as 20 after they scored seven straight points, five of them coming from
D.J. Frechette, including the closing three to give the Eagles a 72-52 lead with 7:13 remaining.
The Chargers cut the deficit to ten points with 1:24 remaining, but a three from Jasson with 49 seconds left put a stamp on the tenth straight win.
For McCall, it was the third double-double of the season.
Frechette and Small both finished with ten points.
Isaiah Holmes had eight points, five rebounds and five assists.
The Eagles shot 50 percent from the field (30-for-60).
The Eagles had nine blocks on the evening for the second consecutive game which is a season-high.
The win evened the all-time series between the two teams at 16-16.
