Baseball Falls To In-State Rival New Haven

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Post University baseball team fell 13-2 in a non-conference game at The Ripken Experience on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles are now 2-6 on the season.

Starting pitcher Matt Goehrig was stellar on the mound, pitching five innings giving up just three runs - two earned - on five hits while striking out ten. He struck out the side in the bottom of the third and had four innings where he struck out at least two batters.

The Chargers got on the board in the bottom of the first with two runs as Andrew Bianco drove in a run with a single.

They would tack on one more in the fifth before the Eagles got on the board in the top of the seventh as Evan Cornwell singled to score Goehrig to make it a 3-1 game. The Eagles had runners on second and third after a double from Hunter Keller but were unable to get another run home in the inning.

UNH would answer in the bottom of the inning, scoring six runs, highlighted by an RBI double by Andrew Cain. They'd score four more in the bottom of the eighth to take a 13-1.

Post tacked on one run in the top of the ninth on a home run by Rian Balbino for the final tally of the game.

Keller finished the game going 2-for-4. Cornwell was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Bianco and Cain each drove in two runs for the Chargers.

Up next, the Eagles head to Cary, N.C. to take Saint Anselm.for a four game series from March 4-6.
