Men's Basketball Loses Tight Game To Caldwell

Caldwell, N.J. - The Post University men's basketball team lost a tight 74-70 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game to Caldwell on Wednesday evening.

The Eagles - who have already clinched the CACC North regular season title - are now 18-8 overall and 14-2 in the CACC.

David Jasson led the way with 18 points for the Eagles, Devonte McCall had 15 points and Abdul-Basit Ajia had a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds. It was Ajia's fourth double-double of the season and second straight.

The Eagles held an early 16-10 lead in the first half, as D.J. Frechette paced the way early on with five points in the stretch. Jordan Williams also hit a three during the stretch.

Caldwell rallied with a 17-8 run of their own to take a 27-24 lead before a three from Jasson tied the game at 27-27 with 4:33 remaining. The teams would be tied again at 29-29 before another three from Jasson put the Eagles back up, 32-29. However, the Cougars scored eight of the next ten points, including a three from Anthony Cooper before the buzzer to give Caldwell the 37-34 lead.

The second half saw the Cougars extend their lead to 60-49 before the Eagles began to chip away, as the Eagles scored the next six on baskets from Ajia, McCall and Tyler Small to cut their deficit to 60-55.

Post trailed 69-62 with 3:35 remaining before scoring the next eight points as Jasson scored six of the points during the run, including the last two from the free throw line to give the Eagles the 70-69 lead with 42 seconds left. However, it would be the last points the Eagles scored and the Cougars (8-16, 4-12 CACC) hit their next five free throws to secure the win.

The Eagles forced 16 turnovers, leading to 15 points and the Eagles' bench outscored the Cougars' bench, 16-11, led by nine from Small.

Cooper had 28 points and ten rebounds to lead the Cougars.

Up next, the Eagles wrap up their regular season on Feb. 26 with a road game at Felician for an 8 p.m. tip.
