Shelton, Conn. – The Post University men's hockey team lost a 5-3 match to the top team in the Northeast 10 (NE10), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) Tuesday afternoon at The Rinks at Shelton.
Post now sits at 6-13 on the season and 4-8 in the NE10.
Down 1-0 part of the way through the second period,
Michael Karas got the Eagles on the board at the 7:51 mark, as
Evan Lugo faked a shot, went behind the net and found a wide open Karas on a centering pass as the Eagles tied the game on the power play goal. IT was the second straight game with a goal for Karas, his fourth of the season.
Less than two minutes later,
Chase Lapworth scored his fourth goal of the season taking a rebound off a shot from
Connor Barter and putting it in the net on the stick side of SNHU goaltender, Adam Mercer.
George Thurston added a goal for SNHU (12-4-0, 10-1-0 NE10) at the 16:00 mark, sending the game into the third period tied, 202.
In the third, the two teams were scoreless for the first half of the period until SNHU scored two goals two minutes apart to take a 4-2 lead.
However, the Eagles would creep back within one as the Eagles picked up another power play goal, this time from
Brandon Crowther after finding a loose puck off the pad of Mercer to make it a 4-3 game.
The Penmen would score an unassisted goal for the final tally of the game.
In net,
Brandon Brown had 30 saves on the day.
The Eagles won the faceoff battle, 37-31, with
John Krapian and Lugo each winning 13.
Post will take on Franklin Pierce on February 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
