Waterbury, Conn. – Behind 25 points from
David Jasson, the Post University men's basketball team won its school-record ninth straight game and remain undefeated in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play as they defeated Nyack, 98-75 on Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center.
The Eagles are 13-6 overall and 9-0 in CACC play. Their record setting win surpassed the 2010-2011 team who had an eight-game winning streak.
Post never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 10-2 lead early on behind five points from
D.J. Frechette.
Nyack came within two points on multiple occasions, but three more threes from Frechette and two from
Derrick Thomas II helped preserve the lead for the Eagles. Frechette scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half, including 4-for-6 from deep.
The Eagles went into the half leading 44-39 after a three-pointer from Nyack's Jordan Rodriguez at the buzzer.
Post shot 55.2 (16-for-29) from the field in the first half, hitting six threes.
The Eagles wasted little time extending their lead in the second half, taking a 64-46 lead at the 14:43 mark after 13 points from Jasson early on, including three three-pointers during the decisive stretch.
Jasson would go 4-for-5 from three in the second half for 18 points The Eagles as a team went 8-for-12 in the second half, including two threes from
Tyler Small and one from
Isaiah Holmes and
Kyle Alcy.
Devonte McCall, the five-time CACC Defensive Player of the Week had a block party of his own with five blocked shots to go with nine rebounds and 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting. McCall is second in the CACC in blocks per game at 2.2.
Small finished with ten points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Holmes had seven points and six assists.
Abdul-Basit Ajia finished with nine points and nine rebounds and made all four of his field goal attempts.
The 98 points were a season-high for the Eagles as were the nine blocked shots.
Jayden Dawson led the Warriors (5-4, 7-8 CACC) with 23 points, while Isayas Aris had 20 points and nine rebounds.
