Middletown, CT - Down three goals, the Post University women's hockey team almost rallied, but fell short in a 4-2 loss to Wesleyan on Tuesday evening.
The loss moves the Eagles to 2-16 overall. Wesleyan moves to 5-1-1.
The Eagles trailed 3-0 in the third, just 1:30 in after a goal from Wesleyan's Effie Tournams, but just 33 seconds later, the Eagles broke through on the first goal of the season for
Tymmarie Grom, who backhanded a shot just in front of the crease, making it a 3-1 game at the 2:03 mark.Â
At the 8:41 mark, it was time for
Tristan Currie's first career goal, as she was able to jam home a loose puck in front of the net in a sea of people on a pass from
Julia Wysocki to make it a 3-2 game.
Jade Giesbrecht was also credited with an assist on the goal.
Post had three more shots on the net from there, but were unable to get another one through and Wesleyan scored one more goal with ten seconds remaining from Effie Tournas on a power play.
Tournas finished with two goals for the Cardinals. Isabelle Allieri and Jenna Stevens had the others.
Post finished with 25 shots on goal on the day, as
Jenna Abeyta and
Emily Racco each had four to lead the Eagles.
Taylor Holm had an assist on the day for the Eagles on the goal from Grom.
Post had the edge in faceoffs, 28-26 with Grom going 12-5 and
Madeleine Noonan going 10-10.
Grace Glasrud finished with 26 saves oin the day.
The Eagles get a long break and will not return to action until 2023 when they host Mercyhurst for a two-game series on Jan. 5-6.
