Men's Basketball Hits 11 Threes In Loss To Assumption

Waterbury, CT – The Post University men's basketball team lost an 83-77 game to Assumption University on Thursday evening in a non-conference game.
The Eagles are now 6-6 on the season and Assumption improved to 5-6.

It was the first game for the Eagles since the passing of teammate Phil Urban. The team held a 22 second moment of silence for Urban, representing his jersey number.

During the first half of the game, the Eagles had a 10-8 lead before Assumption's hot shooting gave the Greyhounds a 35-19 lead. All 27 points in the run for the Greyhounds were from three as Assumption went 9-for-11 from three during the run.

Post battled back, finishing on a 21-11 run as Tyler Small scored eight points – including two threes - while D.J. Frechette hit a three and Harrison Warnock and David Jasson each scored four.

The Eagles were 7-for-12 from three in the first half, with Small leading the way with three. The two teams combine to go 17-for-31 (54.8 percent) from three in the first half.
Assumption scored the first points in the second half to take a brief eight-point lead, but the Eagles plugged away, taking a 57-55 lead at the 13:13 mark after a jumper from Quest Harris. Three-pointers from Jassoni and Warnock also helped contribute to the second half run.

The Eagles led by as much as four points on two different occasions as the two teams swapped leads eight times in the second half. Post took its final lead of the half on a layup from Small at the 3:41 mark to make it a 70-69 Eagles lead. Assumption's Isiah Gaiter would follow with a layup and free-throw to give Assumption a 72-70 lead before a jumper from Isaiah Holmes on the next possession tied the game one last time at the 2:47 mark.

Assumption's Njavan Stewart followed with five straight points before Frechette cut Post's deficit to 77-75 with 1:10 remaining. However, a three from Assumption's Kani Glover followed by a miss on the Eagles' end led to two more free throws from the Greyhounds as they took an 82-75 lead with 19 seconds remaining.

Small finished with a team-high 17 points and seven rebounds. Frechette scored 14 and hit three of his five three-point attempts. Warnock had his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Post finished 11-for-24 (45.8 pct.) from three, tying a season-high for threes in a game. Post outrebounded Assumption, 43-35. Collins Onyeike had four blocks on the evening, a season-high.


Stewart finished with 28 points to lead Assumption. He also had seven rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Gaiter finished with 19 points and ten rebounds.

Up next, the Eagles close out the 2022 calendar year with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) New Year's Eve game at Georgian Court at 2 p.m.
