Winchendon, Ma. – The Post University women's hockey team won its second game of the season behind two goals from
Kiersten Browning, defeating Franklin Pierce University (FPU), 2-1 on Friday afternoon in an exciting New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) game.
The win was also the first ever win over the Ravens in 21 games.
Post (2-14-0, 2-9-0 NEWHA) trailed 1-0 going into the third period, until the 2:36 mark when Browning stuffed in a loose puck off a rebound on a shot from
Madeleine Noonan in a scramble in front of the net to tie the game at 1-1 and the Eagles' first power play goal of the game.
The teams remained tied until the 14:43 mark when a shot from
Caisey Van Den Oetelaar was stopped by FPU goaltender Jill Hertl, and the rebound bounced off the boards behind and around the net to Browning who put the puck in a virtually empty net to give the Eagles the 2-1 advantage and their second power play goal of the game.
Browning now has six goals on the season for the Eagles to lead the team. It was also her first two-goal game of the season and second two-goal game of her career. She has also matched her goal total from last season in half the games.
Grace Glasrud shut the door the rest of the way, stopping 43 shots in total. It was her third straight game with 40 or more saves.
Franklin Pierce's (6-8-1, 4-4-1 NEWHA) lone goal came in the 12:59 mark of the second on a goal from Jenna Ruiz.
The two teams meet Saturday at 2 p.m.
