Still On Top: Men's Soccer Captures Fifth CACC Championship With Title Win Over Alliance

Philadelphia, Pa. - For the fifth time in program history, the Post University men's soccer team won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship, defeating Alliance, 3-1 in the title game.

This is the fourth straight title in as many attempts for the Eagles who also captured its second straight regular season title earlier this season. The win also gave the Eagles an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. They will await their seeding and opponent, which will be announced on Monday.

The Eagles are now 15-3-2 on the season. The 15 wins are tied for the second most wins in a season in program history along with the 2013 team, and just one win shy of the 2019 team, which won 16 games.

The Eagles put their mark on the game early on, scoring in the 12th minute as Gentian Selimi used phenomenal footwork to beat his defender and get into the box, finding Carles Aliberch who took a shot at the net that deflected off of Aritz Uriate Alonso, who gave the Eagles the 1-0 lead. It was Alonso's sixth goal of the season. The Eagles would hold that lead into the half.

After putting on pressure throughout the second half, the Eagles finally broke through, forcing a corner kick from Aliberch. He put the kick in the box, finding Arnau Fabrega who headed in his third goal of the season, putting Post up, 2-0.

Post put a cherry on the game wth an insurance goal from  Selimi taking a rebound off a shot from Alonso, scoring his seventh of the season for a 3-0 lead in the 78th minute.

Alliance added one of their own in the 87th minute from Miguel Andrade, but it was all they would get.

Soren Jensen stopped two shots on the day for the Eagles. Post had ten corner kicks, its second-highest total of the season. Marco Roessle stopped seven for No. 6 Alliance. Alliance finishes its season 6-8-6.

Sergio Sanchez was named CACC Tournament MVP along with making the CACC All-Tournament team. Sanchez was among five Eagles to make the team, joining Antoine Trifonov, Selimi, Aliberch and Jensen.
