Waterbury, CT - The Post University men's basketball team lost an 86-66 game to the University of Bridgeport to open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Wednesday evening at the Drubner Center.
The loss puts the Eagles at 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the CACC. Bridgeport moves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the CACC.
D.J. Frechette led the Eagles with a career-high 28 points on 7-for-17 shooting, including 6-for-12 from three, His hot shooting kept the Eagles in the game early on.
Bridgeport opened up the game taking a 13-4 lead before a three from
Cape Holden cut the deficit to 13-7. The Purple Knights opened the lead back up to 24-11, but a run fueled by four three pointers from Frechette, cut the Bridgeport lead to 30-25 with 5:18 remaining. The Eagles trailed 41-32 going into the half.
The Eagles conceded the first nine points of the second half to Bridgeport as the Purple Knights took a 50-32 lead just under two minutes into the half. Post once again cut into the deficit, going on a 12-4 run as three-pointers from
Tyler Small and
David Jasson gave the Eagles some life in the second half making it a 54-44 game.
However, it would be the closest the Eagles would get as Bridgeport went on a 22-7 run to put the game away. Malcolm Moye scored 13 of his team-high 21 points in the second half for Bridgeport.
Abdul-Basit Ajia finished with seven points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Holden finished with nine points. Small had seven.
Frechette's 28 points surpassed his previous career-high of 20, which he had achieved three times.
Ali Sumareh had 14 points off the bench for Bridgeport.
