Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Alliance, Clinch CACC Tournament Berth

Jersey City, N.J. – The Post University women's volleyball team won its fourth straight game to close out the season, and most importantly clinched a berth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament as it defeated Alliance University, 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-14) on Wednesday evening.

The Eagles wrap up their regular season finishing 10-19 overall and 8-10 in the CACC.

It's the second straight season the Eagles have qualified for the CACC Tournament, and its four-game winning streak is its longest since the 2018 season, when they won six in a row. It was also the third straight shutout for the Eagles, who have seven shutouts on the season.

Lydimar Soto and Madelynn Boop each had nine kills on the day, while Aniya Goodman had eight. Izabella Rae had 18 assists and the Eagles had eight aces as a team

Post started out with a bang in set one, with four straight kills to take a 4-0 lead as Goodman had two kills and Soto had one. Alliance briefly cut the Post lead to three points at 7-4, but the Eagles went on a 8-3 run to take a 15-7 lead on a kill from Soto. The Eagles turned an 18-12 lead into a 22-12 lead on back-to-back kills from Boop and an ace by Rae to effectively put the set away and put the Eagles up 1-0 in the match.

Similar to the first set, the Eagles scored the first four points of the second set which was kicked off by two kills from Goodman and one by Datari Mathis. Alliance scored the next two, but the Eagles would just continue to extend its lead from there, taking a 17-7 lead after a service error from the Warriors. The Eagles scored the final three points of the set, the last two coming from an ace by Maria Fernanda Branco and a kill from Soto.

The final set was more competitive through the first 15 points as the Eagles had an 8-7 lead before rattling off six straight points – five of those on kills – to take a 14-7 lead. Colleen Romero had two kills in the run. With the Eagles leading, 20-13, Post scored five of the final six points, the last on an ace by Alyssa Groves to win the match and put the Eagles into the CACC Tournament.

Groves finished with a team-high 21 digs. Romero had seven kills. Kaitlyn Lemmon had four kills. Mathis finished with five kills and a block.

Alliance is now 2-27 overall and 0-17 in the CACC.

Post will be the fourth seed in the North and will learn their opponent later in the week.
