Men's Hockey Leads After First Period, But Loses To Stonehill

Shelton, CT - The Post University men's hockey team held an early one-goal lead, but lost a 5-2 non-conference game to Stonehill on Saturday evening at The Rinks at Shelton.

The Eagles are now 3-4 on the season, while the Skyhawks move to 7-1.

Post jumped on the board early at the 4:40 mark of the first. Ryan Cardow made a great pass to Michael Gethings who took a shot that was stopped by Stonehill goaltender John Day. Cardow grabbed the rebound and put it in the net for his first goal of the season. For Cardow, he has now had a point in three straight games.

The Skyhawks responded with two in the second, both by Carter Rapalje, who finished with a hat trick, to take a 2-1 lead into the third. Stonehill scored just 1:12 into the third on a goal from Jake Cady.

Post attempted a rally in the third at the 5:32 mark as Trey Deloury took a slapshot at the net, that was stopped by Day, but knocked in the net by a Stonehill player to make it a 3-2 game on the power play. It was Deloury's second goal of the season. Deloury has had a point in all but one game this season for the Eagles.

Rapalje would add a goal just over two minutes later and Nolan Fitzpatrick added an empty net goal for the final tally.

Post finished with 35 shots on the day, with Nick Brewer leading the way with five. Drew Blodgett stopped 27 shots, including 12 in the first period for the Eagles.

Up next, the Eagles host Western New England University at 2 p.m. on Nov. 22.
