Harrison Warnock led all five starters in double figures with 17 points as the Post University men's basketball team beat American International College, 84-58 in resounding fashion on Saturday afternoon.
The win moves the Eagles to 3-1 on the season.
After falling behind 19-15 halfway through the first half, a jumper from
Abdul-Basit-Ajia, followed by a steal from
Cape Holden that led to a layup from Warnock tied the game at 19-19 with 9:23 remaining in the first half.
After an AIC time out, Post responded with another jumper from Ajia and a three-pointer from
Tyler Small to put the Eagles up, 24-19.
The Yellow Jackets got within two points on two separate occasions the rest of the way in the second half, but the Eagles turned a 26-24 lead to a 33-24 lead on layups from Warnock, Holmes and
Quest Harris to make it a 33-24 game. AIC cut the deficit to 36-29 with two minutes left, but it would be the last they scored in the half as the Eagles closed on a 5-0 run, including a three from Holmes. Post led 41-29 at the break.
Post jumped out to a 57-34 lead less than five minutes into the second half, marked by three straight three-pointers; two from Small and one from
D.J. Frechette.
The Yellow Jackets showed no signs of threatening the Eagles, as Post went up by as much as 37 points on two separate occasions.
Post shot 51.4 percent from the field on 36-for-70 shooting. They also went 10-for-23 from three-point range.
Post forced 17 turnovers on the day, leading to 28 points. Post also had 20 second chance points, thanks to 13 offensive rebounds.
Holmes finished with 13 points. Small had 12 points. Ajia had an all-around great box score with 12 points, five rebounds and six assists. Frechette finished with 11 points. Off the bench, Holden had six points and four steals.
The Eagles have won the last three meetings against the Yellow Jackets by an average margin of 21 points.
Buka Peikrishvili (0-4) led AIC with 13 points.
