Men's Basketball Handed First Loss In Back And Forth Game With SNHU

Bridgeport, CT  – In a back and forth game, the Post University men's basketball team lost its first game of the season, a 62-61 defeat by Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) at the Bridgeport Classic on Sunday afternoon.

Isaiah Holmes had 15 points to lead three Eagles in double figures. D.J. Frechette and David Jasson each had 12 apiece.
The game featured ten lead changes.

Post took their first lead of the game at the 14:36 mark after back-to-back threes from Abdul-Basit Ajia and David Jasson to give Eagles a 10-6 lead.

After the Penmen took a 17-13 lead on baskets by Ethan Okwuosa and Ryan Layman, the Eagles scored the next five on a layup from Ajia and a three from Holmes, once again giving the Eagles a brief one point lead.

The Penmen took their biggest lead of the half at 28-23, but an 8-2 run , including five points from Tyler Small put the Eagles back up, 31-30 with 3:09 left. Post would get just two more points the rest of the half and trailed, 35-33 into the break.

In the second half, no team took more than a one possession lead until the 8:06 mark when a jumper by D.J. Frechette gave the Eagles a 49-45 lead. Okwuosa scored on the next possession for SNHU before a three from Frechette gave Post its biggest lead of the game at 52-47.

SNHU scored the next six points but a three from Jasson gave the Eagles the 55-53 lead back at 4:56.

The Penmen scored the next seven points, the last five coming from Matt Becht to take a 60-55 lead. SNHU would hold a lead and the Eagles cut their deficit 62-61 game with 15 seconds left on a layup from Holmes.

After a missed free throw by SNHU, the Eagles grabbed the rebound, but were unable to get a shot off on time.

Ajia finished with nine points and six rebounds. Small had nine points.

Becht led SNHU with 16 points. Noah Kamba and Layman each had 11.

Up next, the Eagles open up their home season with a game against Saint Anselm at 7 p.m. at the Drubner Center on Nov. 16.
