Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team lost a pair of 3-0 matches to Jefferson (17-25, 22-25, 10-25) and American International College (AIC) (18-25, 11-25, 19-25) on Saturday afternoon.
Post is now 5-15 overall and 3-7 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
Against Jefferson,
Datari Mathis led the Eagles with six kills, while
Maria Fernanda Branco had 11 assists and
Alyssa Groves had 12 digs.
Jefferson took a 5-0 lead early in the first set. The Eagles got to within three points on two occasions, but were unable to get closer as the Rams (12-4, 7-2 CACC) took a 1-0 lead.
Madelynn Boop had three kills in the set.
In set two, it was the Eagles who scored the first five points of the set, including three aces from
Izabella Rae. Post extended its lead to 15-7, the as Mathis had two of her kills during the stretch, while
Kaitlyn Lemmon had three. The Rams, however went on a 14-2 run with Sam Mann producing three kills on the run, giving Jefferson a 21-17 lead. Post closed to within 23-22, but the Rams scored on the final two points to lead 2-0.
Jefferson took control of the third set, after going on a 10-1 run after the teams were tied 5-5. The Eagles didn't get close than eight points the rest of the way.
Rae finished with five aces for the Eagles.
Jess Molen and Morgan Ritchie each had nine kills for Jefferson.
Against AIC (17-1), the Eagles took an early 5-3 lead in the first set, before the Yellow Jackets took a brief 7-5 lead. The teams were tied 9-9 before a 13-4 run by AIC put the set away to take a 1-0 lead.
Zara McCauley had four kills in the set.
In set two, AIC finished on an 11-2 run, including the last four points to go up 2-0.
Post took an early 8-2 lead to kick off the third, taking advantage of six errors by the Yellow Jackets. AIC rallied to make it a 13-13 game before scoring six of the next seven points to take a 20-14 lead, and eventually the match.
McCauley finished with seven kills. Rae had three assists and 12 assists, both leading the Eagles.
The Eagles will host Dominican on October 11 at 7 p.m. in CACC play at the Drubner Center.
