Orangeburg, N.Y. – The Post University men's soccer team won captured its second consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Regular Season Championship after defeating Dominican, 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon in its final regular season game of the year.
The regular season title is the fifth in school history. They also won in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2021.
The Eagles finish their regular season at 12-3-2 overall and 9-1-2 in the CACC. In the most recent NCAA Regional Rankings, the Eagles are currently ranked eighth in Super Regional I, which consists of East Region and Atlantic Region schools.
After giving up a goal in the 23
rd minute, the Eagles got on track in the 42
nd as
Gentian Selimi took the ball from the right corner of the box, made a great first touch to get past his defender and put home the goal for his fifth of the season. It's also the second straight game he has scored.
Selimi would get an assist on Post's second goal of the game as his corner kick found the head of
Arnau Fabrega in the 55
th minute. The ball went off the crossbar and into the net for Fabrega's second of the season, giving Post the 2-1 lead.
In the 70
th minute,
Finn Lanser was the recipient of an assist from Selimi as
Davide Mazza came down the right side passed it into the box to Selimi who made a touch pass to Lanser who scored his first goal of his career, making it a 3-1 game.
Post added one more insurance goal just over two minutes later as
Aritz Uriate Alonso took a pass from
Andrea Berti inside the box and scored his fourth of the season for the final tally of the game.
The Eagles outshot the Chargers (1-12-5, 0-9-3 CACC), 31-5, with
Francisco Sousa leading the way with six.
It was the fourth straight win for the Eagles and the ninth straight win over Dominican.
Up next, Post will begin its quest for a fourth straight CACC Tournament title, opening up against the eighth seeded Caldwell Cougars on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at LaMoy Field. The Eagles won the regular season meeting against Caldwell on October 18, 2-0 on the road.
