Bridgeport, CT – The Post University women's volleyball team rallied back from an early one set deficit to defeat the University of Bridgeport, 3-1 (20-25, 27-25, 25-19, 25-14) on Tuesday evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
The win moves the Eagles to 7-19 overall and 5-10 in the CACC.
Lydimar Soto led the Eagles with 12 kills and five aces.
Aniya Goodman had five blocks and two aces and
Datari Mathis had 11 kills and four blocks.
After dropping the first set, the Eagles rallied from a 24-22 deficit, staving off two set points, first on a kill from
Datari Mathis, then an attack error from the Purple Knights. The two teams would be tied at 25-25 apiece, but a serving error from Bridgeport's Paola Hernandez and a kill from Soto tied the match, 1-1.
In set three, the Eagles scored the first five points, and never trailed, leading by as much as nine points at 19-10 after going on a 7-1 run that included kills from
Kaitlyn Lemmon and Mathis and five attack errors from the Purple Knights (11-17, 10-6 CACC). The Eagles scored the final two points of the set on a kill from Mathis and an ace from Goodman.
Post again scored the first five points of the fourth set as Mathis had three straight kills, and the Eagles never led by less than four the rest of the way. The Eagles scored the last four points of the match, three on errors by the Purple Knights and one on a kill from Soto.
The Eagles had ten blocks on the day, tying a season-high.
Maria Fernanda Branco and
Izabella Rae each had a team-high 17 assists.
Alyssa Groves led match with 23 digs.
