Waterbury, CT - The Post University women's volleyball team lost a five-set thriller to Wilmington, 3-2 ((25-19, 6-25, 25-18, 20-25, 15-12) on Friday afternoon at the Drubner Center.
Lydimar Soto had a season-high 17 kills to go with three aces and 13 digs.Â
Madelynn Boop had 13 kills and
Datari Mathis had ten kills.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first set and never relinquished the lead, enroute to taking a 1-0 lead in the match. The Eagles scored 14 of their points in the set on kills.
In a set for the ages, the Eagles dominated the second in a 25-6 win, as they jumped out to an early 13-3 lead and never lead by les than eight points the rest of the way. It was the lowest points allowed in a set all season for the Eagles. Post finished the set on a 12-1 run, including three of the last four points on kills from Soto.
Wilmington took set three and never trailed, as they turned a 16-12 lead into a 21-12 lead as they went up 2-1.
Post once again bounced back in the third set. With the Eagles up 15-13, they put the set away on six straight points to go up 21-13, including kills from Boop and Soto. Post closed out the set with back-to-back kills from Soto and
Izabella Rae.
In the fifth and final set, the Wildcats scored the first four points and went up 14-8 before the Eagles scored four straight to ward off match point on a kill and ace from Soto before the Wildcats broke through with a point to take the match.
The 55 kills for the Eagles tied a season-high. Their 68 points were a season-high.
The Eagles are now 6-19 overall and 4-10 in the CACC. Wilmington is 12-13 and 9-4 in the CACC.
Up next, the Eagles will head to Bridgeport to take on the Purple Knights on October 25 at 7 p.m.
