Waterbury, CT – The Post University volleyball team lost a 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-23) match to Bloomfield in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Wednesday evening.
Madelynn Boop led the way for the Eagles with 11 kills.
Aniya Goodman had five kills and an ace.
Kaitlyn Lemmon had a team-high four blocks and
Izabella Rae had a team high with 14 assists and ten digs.
The two teams played a competitive first set as the Eagles jumped out to a 7-5 lead early on after four straight points on kills from
Datari Mathis and Rae and an ace from
Maria Fernanda Branco. The teams exchanged leads four times and were tied eight times in the set, the final time with the Eagles scoring two straight on errors by the Bears at 22-22. Bloomfield scored the next two, and the Eagles were able to stave off set point on a kill by Mathis, but a kill from Bloomfield's Karla Burgos gave them the 1-0 match lead.
Bloomfield scored the first five points of the second set and extended its lead to by as much as 11 at 18-7. Post never got closer than six points the rest of the way as the Bears took a 2-0 lead.
The final set took on the same theme as the first, with no one taking bigger than a two-point lead until Bloomfield took a brief 19-16 lead before the Eagles stormed back to take a 23-22 lead on kills by Lemmon and Boop. The Bears would score the final three points, including a kill from Burgos and an ace from Lauryn Hansford.
Post is now 6-18 overall and 4-9 in the CACC.
Kalme Moncavo led the Bears with nine kills. Burgos had seven. Hansford had a match-high five aces and 19 assists. Bloomfield, the top team in the North is now 12-5 overall and 11-1 in the CACC.
Up next, the Eagles will host Wilmington at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 21 to kickoff homecoming weekend at Post University.
