Volleyball Takes First Set In Loss To New Haven

Waterbury, CT - THe Post University women's volleyball team took the first set, but lost 3-1 (21-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-19) to the University of New Haven in a non-conference game.

Post is now 6-16 on the season, while New Haven is 11-8.

Post took set one after rallying from a 12-4 deficit, going on a 16-6 run to take a 20-18 lead. During the run, Aniya Goodman scored three straight points for the Eagles on a kill and two consecutive aces that tied the game at 17 apiece. Post scored four of their last points on kills from Madelynn Boop, Kaitlyn Lemmon, Izabella Rae and Lydimar Soto.

The Eagles again rallied in set two, as they trailed 20-16 before scoring four straight to tie the set at 20-20. Post staved off two set points, and took a 25-24 lead after kills from Lemmon and Rae. However, the Chargers scored the final three, the last two on kills by Macy Brown to take the set.

Post led 14-11 in set three before the Chargers scored seven straight to take an 18-14 lead. But the Eagles scored four straight of their own on kills from Datari Mathis, Rae and Lemmon. Both teams kept it close throughout the end of the set, but the Chargers scored the last two to lead 2-1 in the match.

Rae had three kills in the final set, but the Chargers broke a 16-16 tie with five straight points to take a 21-16 lead and held on to take the match.

Rae finished with 11 kills and 30 assists, both team-highs. Soto had nine kills and 13 digs. Lemmon had eight kills and three blocks. 

Macy Brown and Emily Barry each had 17 kills for the Chargers to lead their team.

Up next, the Eagles head to Philadelphia to take on Holy Family in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at noon on Saturday, October 15.
