Men’s Basketball Rallies From Early Deficit To Beat Georgian Court For Eighth Straight Win

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team rallied from an early 13-point deficit to defeat Georgian Court in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game, 86-67 for its eighth consecutive win.

The win moves the Eagles to 12-6 overall and 8-0 in the CACC. Their undefeated mark in the CACC is the best start after eight games in conference play in school history, surpassing the 2003-04 team.

Devonte McCall led the way for the Eagles with 25 points to go along with six rebounds steals. Abdul-Basit Ajia had 11 points and nine assists.

Post fell behind 15-2 at the 16:03 mark of the first half before rallying to take a 24-19 lead at the 8:51 mark after a 22-4 run of their own. The run started with a jumper in the lane from Jack Shannon, and was capped by a three from Derrick Thomas II. McCall scored eight points in the run, while David Jasson scored four of his own.

Post grew its lead to as much as 11 on three different occasions, the final time on a jumper from McCall, which gave the Eagles a 46-35 lead heading into the half. McCall had 18 points in the first half.

The second half saw the Lions close the gap to five points early on at 51-46, but the Eagles went on a 17-8 run as a McCall steal and dunk, followed by a transition three put the Eagles up 68-54. Post never led by less than double digits the rest of the way and led by as much as 21 points in the half. Post shot 18-for-36 from the field in the second half.

D.J. Frechette finished with ten points, while Tyler Small had 13 points, four rebounds and a steal.

The Eagles are now 8-0 against Georgian Court, with six of the wins by double figures.

Post forced 26 turnovers – including 14 steals - leading to 33 points. The turnovers forced and steals were both a season-highs for Post. McCall and Isaiah Holmes each had a team-high four steals.

Up next, the Eagles host Nyack in a CACC game at 7:30 p.m. on February 1.
