Men’s Basketball Wins Its Seventh Straight Game Behind McCall’s 31 Points

Jersey City, N.J. – Devonte McCall scored 31 points to lead the Post University men's basketball team to an 82-77 win over Nyack in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest for their seventh straight win.

The win keeps the Eagles undefeated in conference play at 7-0 and 11-6 overall. The Eagles match the 2003-2004 team as the only teams in school history to start CACC play at 7-0.

The two teams played a close-knit game for almost ten minutes of the first half, tying on five different occasions as McCall, Tyler Small and David Jasson both hit threes as the two teams tied at 18-18 at the 11:11 mark.

Post scored the next eight points, including four points from Abdul-Basit Ajia to put the Eagles up 26-18 at the 8:41 mark.

After the Warriors scored the next seven points to cut the Eagles lead to a point, Post went on a 13-4 run to take its largest lead of the game at 39-29, capped by a layup from McCall. The Warriors responded scoring the last seven points, including a three in the final seconds by Jordan Rodriguez. Post led 39-36 at the half.

The second half mirrored the first over the first five minutes, until the Eagles went on an 11-2 to take a 63-53 lead with the final six points coming on back-to-back threes from Small and Isaiah Holmes.

Nyack again battled back, and got to within two at 77-75 on a tip-in from Jayden Dawson.

However, on the ensuing possession, McCall made a layup and was fouled. He made the subsequent free throw, giving the Eagles an 80-75 lead.

Nyack (7-7, 5-3 CACC) responded with a layup and forced a turnover. Nyack had one last chance to tie the game, but missed three consecutive shots, including two threes and the Eagles grabbed the rebound. Jasson hit the final two free throws to seal the win.

McCall also had a team-high seven rebounds and four assists. Jasson finished with 14 points, including 3-for-4 from three. Small had 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting and four assists. Holmes finished with 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.
