Men’s Basketball Staves Off Late Rally, Beats Chestnut Hill To Remain Undefeated In CACC

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Post University men's basketball team held off a late rally from Chestnut Hill as the Eagles beat the Griffins, 75-74 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game and remain undefeated in conference play.

The win was also the sixth straight for the Eagles who area now 10-6 on the season and 6-0 in the CACC.

Isaiah Holmes led the Eagles with 19 points, while David Jasson had 16 and D.J. Frechette, 13.
Post got off to a strong start, jumping out to an 11-3 lead to start the game as Holmes scored six of the first 11 points of the game.

After the Griffins snuck back within three points at 18-15, the Eagles, rattled off eight straight points, including threes from Frechette and Holmes to jump back to a 26-15 lead. The Eagles would lead by as much as 19 points in the first half with 38 seconds left, after a jumper from Frechette put Post up, 47-28. The Eagles went into the half leading 47-21.

Post maintained their double digit lead throughout the first 12 minutes of the second half until a layup and free throw from Chestnut Hill's MJ Iraldi cut Post's lead to 68-60 with 7:38 remaining.

The Griffins continued to chip away at the Post lead, making it a 68-66 Post lead at 5:54 after two free throws from Nigel Haughton, but Post responded with a three from Jasson to put the Eagles back up 71-66 with 5:40 remaining. Post increased its lead back up to seven after a layup from Kyle Alcy made it 73-66 with 4:34 remaining.

Chestnut Hill (9-7, 6-2 CACC) trimmed the Post lead to 73-72 with 2:03 left, but the Eagles answered again with a jumper from Holmes at 1:43 to put the Eagles up, 75-72. The Griffins again trimmed the lead to one point at 75-74 after a jumper from Amir Warrick with 1:18 left. However, it would be the last points the Eagles gave up as Warrick missed a layup in traffic at the buzzer, giving the Eagles the win.

Holmes also finished with four rebounds and three assists. Devonte McCall had seven points and seven rebounds. Alcy finished with six points and six rebounds.

Warrick and Haughton both had 16 points to pace the Griffins.

The Eagles went 10-for-27 from three, with Jasson going 4-for-6 and Frechette hitting three of his own.

Up next, the Eagles hit the road for a CACC matchup with Nyack at 8:30 p.m. on January 25.
