Waterbury, Conn. – A three-pointer from
David Jasson with 4.7 seven seconds capped a furious late-game rally by the Post University men's basketball team, as it defeated Felician 73-72 to win its fifth straight game and to remain undefeated in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
With 11 seconds left, Felician's Dee-end McRae went to the free-throw line for a one and one. After making the first to give Felician a 72-70 lead, McRae missed the second and
Jordan Williams grabbed the rebound. Williams passed it to
Isaiah Holmes who passed it up to
Devonte McCall who found Jasson in the corner by the Eagles' bench who buried his fourth three of the game to give the Eagles its first lead since 10:39 in the second half. McCrae attempted a three for Felician at the buzzer, but it fell short.
The three was the final basket of the furious rally the Eagles made after being down 69-60 with under two minutes remaining.
Holmes started the rally with a layup in the lane followed by a layup and free throw from McCall to make it a 69-65 game. After the Eagles (9-6, 5-0 CACC) forced a turnover, Holmes again hit a jumper, making it a 69-67 game.
On the ensuing possession, Felician's Justin Davis followed his own miss with a dunk to put the Golden Falcons back up 71-67 with 21 seconds left. However, a three from McCall made it a 71-70 game, setting up the stage for the game's final moment.
In the first half, the Eagles took an early 12-5 lead as Jasson and McCall and
D.J. Frechette combined for all the points early on. Felician (8-5, 3-2 CACC) would score the next seven points before Jasson hit his second three of the game to put Post up 15-12. It would be the last lead they would hold in the first half, as the Eagles trailed by as much as 12 points at 38-26 with 2:08 remaining in the first half.
Post would chip at the deficit throughout the second half until a layup from
Tyler Small gave them a brief 53-52 lead with 10:39 remaining. The Golden Falcons would score on the next possession and hold the lead until the game's final moments.
