Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team won its fourth straight game, a 73-55 victory over Wilmington in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center.
The win puts the Eagles at 8-6 overall and 4-0 in the CACC. They remain in first place in the North Division.
Devonte McCall led three Eagles in double figures with 18 points.
David Jasson had 12 points and
Jordan Williams had ten.
The Eagles led 40-27 at the halftime break after leading by as much as 17 points in the first half.
With the Eagles down 6-2 early on, they went on a 33-12 run in almost a 14-minute stretch to take a 35-18 lead with 4:31 remaining. McCall started the run hitting a three, followed by a made jumper to give Post a 7-6 lead.
Derrick Thomas II scored seven points during the run and Jasson had six. The Eagles hit four threes in the half, including two from McCall. Post held the Wildcats 1-for-10 from three during the first half.
The Wildcats rallied in the second half, going on a 20-7 run to over the first 8:12 of the game before a jumper from
Abdul-Basit Ajia gave the Eagles back the lead. That jumper would start a rally that saw the Eagles extend its lead to as much as 19 points – their biggest lead of the game - at 71-52. During the decisive stretch, Jasson hit two more threes, Williams hit one, and
Isaiah Holmes scored seven of his nine points during that time.
The Eagles outrebounded the Wildcats, 45-42 and the Eagles bench outscored Wilmington, 26-19, led by Williams and Thomas II. Post forced 14 turnovers, turning them into 19 points.
The win was the third straight double-digit win for the Eagles who have defeated its last three opponents by an average of 27 points.
McCall also grabbed ten rebounds for his second double-double of the season. He has scored double-digits in every game he has played in this season. He is seventh in the CACC in scoring at 18.2 points per game.
