Waterbury, Conn. – Four players scored in double figures as the Post University men's basketball team won its third straight game, an 88-63 victory over Caldwell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center.
Post moved above .500 overall and now sit at 7-6 and remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0 as they sit in first place in the CACC North Division.
D.J. Frechette led the way for the Eagles, tying a career high with 20 points.
David Jasson scored 19, going 5-for-8 from three.
Both teams played a tight first nine minute of the games with the two teams tied at 17-17 before a layup from
Isaiah Holmes broke the tie. The Eagles would break out to a 26-19 lead with 10:15 remaining after a three from Holmes. After four straight points from the Cougars, a three from Frechette would start a 14-6 run to break out to a 40-29 lead. Frechette scored eight points in during the run as the Eagles would lead 44-31 at the half.
Jordan Williams scored seven of his ten points in the first half.
A 21-10 run to open the second half put the Eagles in the driver's seat the rest of the way as two threes from Jasson, nine points from Frechette and four points from
Tyler Small gave the Eagles a 65-41 lead.
The Cougars (6-7, 2-3 CACC) trimmed the Eagles lead to 72-55 with 6:26 left, but an 11-2 run, including two more threes from Jasson and a dunk from
Jack Shannon gave the Eagles an 83-57 lead, putting the game away for the Eagles.
Following up his career-high in his last game, Small finished with 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting. To go along with his ten points, Williams had seven points and four rebounds. Holmes finished with seven points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
The Eagles were 12-for-24 from three. It was the fifth time this season they have hit double-digit three-pointers. The Eagles converted 18 of Caldwell's turnovers into 21 points. Led by Frechette, the Eagles' bench outscored the Cougars, 31-11.
