Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball Falls To Bloomsburg And Saint Anselm

Manchester, N.H. – The Post University women's volleyball team lost a pair of matches on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Saint Anselm. The Eagles lost 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-14) to Bloomsburg, followed by a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-18) to the host Hawks.

In match one against the Huskies, the Eagles lost a tight first set as the two teams were tied at 24-24 before Bloomsburg scored the last two points. The Eagles took a 21-19 lead on an attack error by the Huskies before Bloomsburg scored the next four points to take a 23-21 lead. The Huskies went up 24-22, but a service error and an attack error by the Huskies made it a 24-24 match before Bloomsburg was able to end the set on a kill and an ace. The Eagles had 14 kills in the first set, including three by Kaitlyn Sharkey and Madelynn Boop.

Set two saw the Huskies take the first four points before the Eagles answered with four of their own, including back-to-back kills from Aniya Goodman and Lydimar Soto to tie the set. After a 9-3 run by Bloomsburg to take a 13-7 lead, the Eagles scored five of the next six points to cut their deficit to 14-12. It would be the closest the Eagles would get as the Huskies scored 11 of the last 16 points to go up 2-0.

The Eagles took an early 3-1 lead in set three on three straight kills; two from Goodman and one from Soto. However, Bloomsburg went on a 10-3 run to take an 11-6 lead and the Eagles wouldn't get closer than three the rest of the way.

Goodman finished with ten kills, and a block. Colleen Romero had 22 assists and Nelly Diaz had 12 digs to lead the Eagles.

After losing the first two sets in their match against Saint Anselm, the Eagles jumped out to an 11-5 lead, including five straight points with Kim Buttery acquiring two aces during the run.

The Eagles held a 14-9 lead before the Hawks scored seven straight points to take a 16-14 lead, with back-to-back kills from Gabby Belcher. It'd be as close as the Eagles would get the rest of the way.

The Eagles took an early 2-0 lead in set one on a kill from Sharkey and an ace by Diaz before the Hawks took the next six points. Post closed the gap to two points at 9-7, but it'd be as close as they would get as Saint Anselm closed out the set.

Boop and Goodman each had two kills in set two, but the Eagles fell behind 9-2 early and the Hawks went up, 2-0.

Boop finished the match with six kills to go with three digs. Goodman and Sharkey each had five kills. Romero had 17 assists.

Up next, Post opens up its home schedule in a match against The College of Saint Rose on September 7 at 7 p.m.
