Volleyball Takes Down Saint Rose In Home Opener

Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University volleyball team defeated The College of Saint Rose 3-1 in the Eagles home opener Tuesday night. The Eagles improve to 2-3 on the season, while Saint Rose falls to 2-2 overall.

THE RUNDOWN:  
  • The Eagles were led by 11 kills from Madelynn Boop, who also ended the night with one ace and a block. Lydimar Soto finished her night with 10 kills, while Kaitlyn Sharkey contributed nine points.
  • Colleen Romero recorded 33 assists on the evening to go along with 10 digs. Nelly Diaz led the Eagles with 28 digs, while Aniya Goodman led Post with five blocks.
  • Saint Rose was led by 11 kills from Julia Cavalcanti and 14 assists from Emma Strefling.
  • Post got things going with a 26-24 win in the opening set despite falling behind early 7-2. The Eagles fought their way back into the game, tying the contest at 9-9 on a kill from Romero. After exchanging points the rest of the way, Post finally took control on back-to-back Boop kills, which was followed by a set ending error by Saint Rose.
  • The second set belonged to Saint Rose who surged out to a commanding 18-5 lead in the second set. Post was able to chip away at the deficit, but eventually fell to the visitors 25-16.
  • Set three saw Post return the favor, running up a strong 17-6 lead out of the gate. Saint Rose pulled within four points on an unforced error by the Eagles, but it would not be enough. Post closed out the set on three straight kills from Romero, Boop, and Goodman.
  • The Eagles carried the momentum from the third set into the fourth, opening with kills from Sharkey and Romero. Strong serving from Kim Buttery helped push the Post lead to seven (10-3). Saint Rose, led by Cavalcanti were able to earn a few points back down the stretch, but would never threaten the Eagle lead.
