Post Volleyball Tops SNHU In Four Sets; Drops Match To Le Moyne

Manchester, N.H. – After missing the 2020 season, the Post University women's volleyball team got back to action on Saturday, defeating Southern New Hampshire University, 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 24-26, 25-18). in its first match. The Eagles lost a 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-21, 25-16) match to Le Moyne in their second game of the day.

 

Madelynn Boop led the way for the Eagles with 12 kills on the day, while Colleen Romero had 20 digs and 28 assists.

 

The first set saw the Eagles go down 3-0, and eventually 8-4, before scoring four straight points to tie the set, including three attack errors from the Penmen. The two teams would exchange the lead ten more times in the set. With the set tied at 24-24, the Eagles won the next point on a kill from Boop followed by an ace from Romero to win the set.

 

Set two was as tight as the first set with the teams exchanging leads four times before the Penmen took a 16-12 lead. Post answered with the next four points, including a kills from Datari Mathis and Kaitlyn Lemmon to tie the set back up at 16-16. The teams exchanged the lead four more times in the set before the Eagles took a 24-21 lead after back to back kills from Boop. After the Penmen scored the next two to make it a one-point game, a service error by SNHU's Deanne Wilson gave the Eagles the 2-0 lead.

 

In the third set, the Eagles rallied from a 24-18 deficit to tie the set at 24-24 behind two kills from Boop and one from both Lemmon and Lydimar Soto. However, the Penmen scored the final two points to win the set.

 

In the fourth and final set, the Eagles never trailed and closed out the set, 10-4 for the 25-18 win. The Eagles ended the match in dominating fashion with an ace from Jayda Roman, followed by kills from Kaitlyn Sharkey and Lemmon.

 

Lemmon finished the match with eight kills, while Aniya Goodman had seven. Goodman and Lemmon also had four blocks apiece. Nelly Diaz had 19 digs while Soto had 16.

 

After falling behind in their second match 1-0 against Le Moyne, the Eagles rallied to take the second set after a vital 8-3 run to take a 23-18 lead. During the run the Eagles had kills from Goodman, Sharkey and Elizabeth McGrath to go along with an ace from Soto. The Eagles would end the set with an emphatic kill from Soto to tie the match at 1-1.

 

The Eagles rallied from an early 5-1 deficit to eventually take a 20-19 lead on a kill from Soto, but the Dolphins scored six of the last seven points, including the last four to win the set.

 

In the fourth set, the Dolphins jumped out to an 11-5 lead and were able to keep the Eagles at bay to win the final set.

 

Sharkey led the way for the Eagles with nine kills, while Goodman had seven. McGrath had 14 assists, while Diaz had 22 digs for the Eagles.


The Eagles will play two more matches on Sunday as they'll take on Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. and Saint Anselm at 3:15 p.m. in Manchester, N.H.
