Waterbury, Conn. – After losing the first two sets, the Post University volleyball team made a roaring comeback to beat Dominican, 3-2 on Friday afternoon for their third straight win and to remain undefeated in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC)
THE RUNDOWN:
- Madelynn Boop led everyone with a career-high 29 kills. Aniya Goodman had nine kills and Kaitlyn Lemmon had six to pace the Eagles. Boop also added seven aces, while Kim Buttery had three.
- Nelly Diaz had a game-high 21 digs, and Elizabeth McGrath had 43 assists, a season-high
- In set one, the two teams traded the first 34 points in the set before the Chargers rattled off three straight points to take a 20-17 lead. The Eagles rallied back and took a 22-21 lead, capped by a kill from Lydimar Soto to take a 22-21 lead. However, the Chargers would score the final four points of the set – three of the points on kills – to win the set.
- Set two saw the Chargers take an 11-4 lead and eventually a 21-15 lead before the Eagles scored five straight points, including two aces from Buttery to make it a 21-20 game. The Chargers – similar to set one – scored the last four points with three of them via kill. Boop had six kills in the set.
- Post got on the board in set three, scoring six straight points early on to take a 10-5 lead. During the run, Boop had three aces and a kill. The Chargers rallied and tied the match at 15-15. The Eagles took a 22-21 lead, and the teams traded the last five points, with Boop ending the set on a kill on an assist from McGrath.
- Set four saw the two teams exchange leads five times. With the set tied at 23, the Eagles scored the last two points on a kill from Boop and an attack error by the Chargers. Boop and Datari Mathis each had three kills in the set.
- In the deciding fifth and final set, the Eagles jumped out to a commanding 8-1 lead as Boop, Jayda Roman and Goodman combined for seven of the eight points on kills. The Eagles capped the set and match win on a kill from Goodman.
