Men’s Soccer Picks Up First Win Of Season In CACC Opener Against Dominican

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University men's soccer team kicked off conference play with a decisive 3-1 win over Dominican in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match at LaMoy Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles are now 1-3-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the CACC.

The Eagles got on the board in the 16th minute as Sergio Sanchez took a rebound off a shot from William Nordqvist, made a move on a defender and put home his first goal of the season to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead.

In between the first and second goals for the Eagles, goalkeeper Soren Jensen made a leaping diving one hand stop off a header from Antonio Zhu Sanchez to preserve the one goal lead for the Eagles. He would stop two more shots until the Eagles' goal in the 30th minute.

Omar Florindo wrestled the ball away from a Dominican player, passed it to Sergio Diaz, whose pass deflected off a defender right to Alvaro Sanchez who easily scored his second goal of the season to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Post went into halftime with the two-goal lead and would extend it to 3-0 in the 58th minute as Davide Mazza took a long pass from Riccardo Guglielmini, raced down the field and took a shot that hit off the bottom of the crossbar and snuck over the line to extend the lead.

Dominican would score a goal in the 87th minute on a shot from Ewan Gray.

Jensen finished with a season-high seven saves for the Eagles.

"Very proud of the boys today," head coach Ted Haley said. "I created a very difficult opening schedule so that we could see where we are and then learn and improve as we grow into the season. We unfortunately underperformed a bit, picked up some injuries, and had some outside setbacks but soon we will have our full squad available again which is exciting. This group, if they come together and become united, is very talented and can do great things. Big league win today and I look forward to our Saturday match to see us hopefully improve again."

Up next, the Eagles host Goldey-Beacom at 2 p.m. on September 25th in a CACC contest.
