New Haven, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team lost a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-21) match to Southern Connecticut State University on Friday evening in a non-conference match.
The Eagles now sit at 3-8 on the season.
The teams split the first 18 points of set one before the Owls won four straight points to take a 13-9 lead. The Eagles crept back to cut their deficit to 14-13 after a kill from
Madelynn Boop and
Lydimar Soto. The Owls were able to put the set away on a 7-2 run to take a 21-15 lead and hold on to the set one win. Boop had four kills in the set.
In set two the Eagles took an early 5-4 lead on a kill from
Datari Mathis, one of four in the set for her. The teams kept it tight until a 3-0 run by the Owls gave them a 16-12 lead. The Eagles wouldn't get any closer than two points the rest of the way.
Aniya Goodman had two kills in the set.
The third set saw the Eagles jump out to a 5-2 lead, scoring four straight points early on, led by
Elizabeth McGrath who had an ace and
Kaitlyn Lemmon who had a kill. The Owls rallied for an 8-6 lead and took the lead for good. Soto had four kills during the set.
Boop finished the game with nine kills to lead the Eagles. Soto had eight and Mathis had six. McGrath finished with 22 assists.
The Eagles will head back down to SCSU to take on Franklin Pierce on Saturday at noon in a non-conference match.
