Women’s Volleyball Wins Five-Set Thriller Against Pace

Pleasantville, N.Y. - The Post University volleyball team hit the road Tuesday night for a non-conference contest at Pace University, winning a 3-2 match over the Setters.

THE RUNDOWN:
  • Post was led by ten kills each from Lydimar Soto and Aniya Goodman, while Madelynn Boop chipped in seven and Kaitlyn Sharkey finished with five. Soto and Nelly Diaz each led all players with three aces.
  • Elizabeth McGrath led all players with 30 assists. Diaz ended the night with a team-high 16 digs.
  • Brielle Jones led all players with 23 kills, while Georgette Cosentino finished with 18 assists. Morgan Amos of Pace ended with 19 digs.
  •  Post started the first set on a 4-0 run led by a strong serve from Diaz that saw back-to-back aces from the libero. Pace worked its way back into the contest, tying the contest 13 times. The Eagles finally captured the lead for good on a Setter error, eventually taking the 25-23 win.
  • The second set was another back and forth battle in the beginning. With the set tied at 13-13, Pace found a way to force several Eagle errors in order to take the lead and the set.
  • The Eagles bounced back in the beginning of the third set, opening on a strong 10-3 run with kills from Boop, Niah Messidor, and Mikayla McLeod. The Setters turned things around moments later, countering with a 9-1 run to take the lead at 12-11. The set then became a battle with both sides once again trading points like in the previous sets. It would be Pace that would have enough to pull out the win, taking a 2-1 lead in the match.
  • The fourth set saw Post open the contest the same way, running up a quick 10-3 advantage. However, this time around Eagles would never relinquish control of the game, earning a 25-19 win and forcing a fifth set.
  • Neither side was willing to go down without a fight, battling the entire way. With the deciding set tied at 13-all, the Eagles collected the win with an error by the Setters and a strong put down.
