Rivera’s Home Run Sends Eagles To CACC Semis In Dominating Win Over Chestnut Hill

Waterbury, Conn. – Demi Rivera hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to send the Post University softball team to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinals in a 10-2 win over Chestnut Hill on Friday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

The home run capped a 3-for-3 day from Rivera who drove in two runs and scored two. It is the second straight game the Eagles have won via the mercy rule in the tournament.

After the Griffins opened up a 1-0 lead on a solo home run by Devon Horner in the first, the Eagles took its first lead on a two-run double from Cassidy Petrie that scored Rivera, who singled and Skylar Devorin to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

The Griffins got the run back in the top of the third, but the tie didn't last long as Bailee Zaccaro scored on a single from Caitlin DeAngelis that also resulted in a throwing error, allowing her to score.

Post put the game out of reach in the fourth and fifth innings scoring three runs in each. In the fourth, Allyson Wallauer hit a two-run single, followed by an RBI single from Rivera to make it a 6-2 game.

In the fifth, Kasey Jusino hit an RBI single and Zaccaro hit a two-run double to make it a 9-2 game. The Eagles (19-9) scored all three runs in the fifth with two outs after both Jusino and Zaccaro both fought off multiple two-strike pitches before delivering the clutch hits for the Eagles.

Bridget Betley pitched her second straight complete game in the tournament, allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out four. She struck out the side in the top of the second.

It is the first time since 2014 the Eagles have been one of the final four teams remaining in the tournament.

The Eagles will take on Georgian Court in the semifinals on Monday, May 10 beginning at 3 p.m.
