Lakewood, N.J. – The Post University softball team lost to Georgian Court, 8-0 on Monday afternoon in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinals in a six-inning game.
The Eagles end their season – one of its best in school history – at 19-10.
Georgian Court scored four runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a two-run single by Malia Black.
Post had an opportunity to cut into the lead in the next half inning. With one out in the top of the third and Skylar Devorin – who singled – on first, Courtney Brobst hit what looked to be a two-run homer, but Black, the left fielder leapt up and pulled the ball back in to preserve the four-run lead for the Lions.
The Eagles would keep Georgian Court's bats silent the over the course of the next three innings, but the Lions were able to get four more in the bottom of the sixth, with Taylor Barraza hitting a two-run double to give the Lions the win.
Bridget Betley struck out five in 5.1 innings for the Eagles. She finishes the season with a team-high nine wins.
Devorin had the lone hit for the Eagles.
The Eagles finish 2021 having had one of its best seasons in the CACC. Their 17 conference wins were the second highest amount in school history. They won 18 CACC games in 2016 and 2014. They also had two players, Betley and freshman Caitlin DeAngelis make the All-CACC second team, which was the first time at least two Eagles had made an all-conference team since 2017.
