Zaccaro’s Bat And Betley’s Arm Lead Softball To First Round CACC Tournament Win Over Goldey-Beacom

Waterbury, Conn. – Bridget Betley pitched a complete game and Bailee Zaccaro drove in three runs as the Post University softball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) after defeating Goldey-Beacom, 9-1 (5 innings) on Thursday afternoon.

The Eagles – seeded fifth - will now take on No. 13 seed Chestnut Hill at 2 p.m. at LaMoy Field on Friday.

Post got on the board early on an RBI triple by Courtney Brobst that scored Cassidy Petrie to make it a 1-0 game. Two batters later, Zaccaro hit a ball to third base. As Brobst broke for home, third baseman Jaeda Henriquez attempted to tag her but dropped the ball, allowing Brobst to score.

The Eagles used a big six-run second inning to open up the game.

Caitlin DeAngelis and Alexa Pacy started the rally with back to back singles. After a sacrifice bunt by Skylar Devorin and a pop out, DeAngelis would score on a wild pitch. Brobst and Kasey Jusino followed with walks to load the bases for Zaccaro who doubled to left to score Brobst and Pacy to make it a 5-0 game.

Allyson Wallauer followed with a pop up to third base, but the ball was misplayed and dropped. As Wallauer headed to second, Henriquez overthrew the ball into right field allowing both runners and Wallauer to score, making it an 8-0 game.

The Lightning got one back in the top of the third, and Zaccaro followed with a sac fly in the bottom of the fourth for the Eagles' final run of the game.

Betley pitched her eighth complete game of the season for the Eagles, striking out one.
