Seniors Step Up In Game Two As Baseball Splits With University Of The Sciences

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University baseball seniors used the long ball and a complete game from Chas Cywin to win game two, 7-2 and split with University of the Sciences in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Saturday afternoon at Municipal Stadium on Senior Day.

Prior to the game, Cywin, Robert Olah, Jared Zima, and coach Erik Loneker were honored for Senior Day, and they made the most of it when it mattered most in game two.

Cywin struck out eight batters, his second highest total of the season, as he allowed just one earned run on four hits. He had four innings in the game where he struck out at least two batters. He struck out a high of 11 in an Eagles win over Dominican on April 18.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the fifth, Devon Ogston reached on a fielder's choice and was followed by a two-run homer from Rian Balbino, his first of the year to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead.

Brycin Hernandez reached on an error and Harry Allegra singled before the senior, Zima, cleared the bases with a triple, blowing the game open to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead. It set the stage for Olah, who followed with his first home run of the season, to make it a 7-1 game, effectively securing the win for the Eagles.

Olah finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run. Zima finished the day 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run.

In game two, the Devils took a 3-0 lead after the top of the first, but the Eagles were able to get two back on a wild pitch that scored Ogston and a double play that scored Brycin Hernandez.

The Devils went up 8-2 in the third. The Eagles responded with an RBI double from Allegra and a sacrifice fly from Zima to make it an 8-4 game.

However, that would be the last of the scoring for the Eagles as the Devils tacked on one in the fourth and fifth innings and four in the seventh to put the game away.

Hernandez went 2-for-3 with two runs. Allegra finished the game 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Up next, the Eagles go on the road to play Goldey-Beacon in a CACC doubleheader at noon on May 4.
