Cassiliano Has Six Goals, Chambers and DiStefano Have Hat Trick As Women’s Lacrosse Opens Season With Win Over Holy Family

Waterbury, Conn. – Morgan Cassiliano had six goals, and Lauren Chambers and Cara DiStefano each had a hat trick as the Post University women's lacrosse team defeated Holy Family, 16-10 in the opening game of their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference season.

The Eagles never trailed as they opened up the scoring with two goals from Cassiliano within the first four minutes of the game to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead on assists from Julia Thomas and Molly Dobratz.

After the Tigers cut the lead in half, Gabrielle Fiora scored back-to-back goals – one on an assist from Thomas – to give Post a 4-1 lead.

Holy Family again cut the lead to one to 4-3, before the Eagles rattled off five straight goals, three of them from DiStefano to make it a 9-3 game. Two of DiStefano's goals came with the Eagles one player down.

The Tigers stormed back with five straight goals of their own before Cassiliano went around the net and blasted a shot a point blank range as the first half expired to give the Eagles a 10-8 lead at the half.

Post scored six of the next seven goals in the second half, including three from Cassiliano, two from Chambers and one from Lotanna Nwabudu to put the game away with just under ten minutes left in the game.

Christina Badaracco finished with 12 saves in her season debut.

With the win, the Eagles sit in first place in the CACC.

Up next, the Eagles will host Wilmington on April 10 at noon in a CACC matchup.
