Waterbury, Conn. – Nick Meier scored four goals and Jake Bova had a hat trick, and the Post University men's lacrosse team led at the half, but fell to Dominican, 18-13 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field.
The Eagles fell behind 2-0 early, before rattling off five straight goals, including the last four of the first period.
Meier scored two of his goals during the five-goal run along with Dylan Heald and seniors Carlos Chacua and Bova.
The Chargers scored three of the next four goals to make it a 6-5 Post advantage, but Heald and Chacua scored in the latter part of the second period to give the Eagles an 8-6 lead at the half.
Dominican scored the first six goals of the second half to take an 11-8 lead before Quran Langston broke the run with a goal at the 4:39 mark in the third to make it an 11-9 game.
Daniel Carson of Dominican would score the final two goals of the third period to make it a 13-9 Chargers lead heading into the fourth.
After falling behind 16-10 with 6:16 remaining in the game, the Eagles attempted to mount a comeback as Bova scored two straight goals, followed by a goal from Brendan Kelleher to make it a 16-13 game with 1:41 left. However, Dominican scored two goals with under a minute remaining to put the game away. Kelleher also added two assists on the day.
Manuele D'Alessio finished the game with 14 saves on the day.
The Eagles outshot Dominican, 55-49 and the Eagles edged Dominican in groundballs, 36-35.
Prior to the game, Bova, Chacua, D'Alessio, Justin Nogueira and Mark Colella were honored as part of Senior Day as they played their final home game as a member of the Eagles.
